DMSO and Cancer

While the uses of DMSO in medical treatments have been documented for decades, its primary use was as a topical analgesic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.  However, with all the studies conducted, we now know that DMSO can be used in treating a mixture of ailments including mental illness, arthritis, emphysema, and even help rid the body of cancer.

DMSO (Dimethyl sulfoxide) was first discovered in the 1950s when its ability to protect cells from freeze damage.  Then Dr. Stanley Jacob began conducting various studies in the medicinal properties naturally present in DMSO, which began in the 1960s. Finally in the 1970s, DMSO was permitted for use as an anti-inflammatory treatment in horses and dogs as well as a prescription for inflamed bladder issues in humans. 

However, supporters of DMSO have long believed that it is also beneficial in slowing or stopping cancer growth, specifically in some forms of breast, colon, ovary, bladder and skin.  Their belief is based on evidence in its success of being used as a part of treatment for certain metabolic cancers.

This differs highly from the frequent use of chemotherapy whereas both normal and cancer cells are targeted because the chemo treatments do not have the ability to differentiate between healthy and cancerous cells.  Therefore, when it is used in orthodox medicine it has the potential to damage all cells, healthy or not as well as put toxins into the body.

Cancer can be an assaulting disease that hampers the body’s ability to ward off disease. And while there is no known outright cure for cancer, there have been some positive results in the holistic approach to fighting it; which largely consists of DMSO.  In alternative medicine, DMSO has been used for its ability to carry other treatments and break through the cell membrane walls to get to the area where it is truly needed.  It has been successfully combined with hydrogen peroxide in addressing illness. 

DMSO is an all-natural product that originates from the wood pulping process.  While it is labeled as a solvent, as it is virtually unrecognized by the FDA to have any uses for physical ailments, many have successfully used it for muscle and joint pain and other treatments including the repair of cancerous cells.
